Naming Ceremonies
What a joyful occasion!
A naming ceremony is typically a non-religious celebration that formally and inclusively welcomes a baby, child (including adopted children, stepchildren) or adult who is taking on a new name into a family or community and announces their chosen name
Naming ceremonies are often chosen instead of traditional religious events like christenings or baptisms and take place at home, in a garden, community centre, hall, hotel or most outdoor spaces you would like.
I can help you and your family to personalise and tailor the occasion with location and celebration to reflect the personality of the person celebrating their new name.
What Happens During the Ceremony
As your celebrant I begin the celebration with a warm introduction and an idea of the format of the occasion, which we would have previously discussed.
There is an opportunity for readings, poems, stories and reflections for your family and friends to share
There are lots of lovely symbolic rituals that can be shared as part of the ceremony include lighting candles, planting trees, or creating keepsakes to mark the occasion.
Parents and supporting adults may like to make pledges or statements to support the child’s growth and future well-being.
You may wish this to be a time to embrace cultural traditions that might have spiritual significance for your family so they could be included too.
If you're thinking about organising a naming ceremony or celebration, I can help you plan a beautiful, personalised and memorable occasion.
